West African coastal classification, hazard management and standardized communication scheme utilizing the Coastal Hazard Wheel
연안 위험 휠(Coastal Hazard Wheel)을 활용한 서부 아프리카 연안 분류, 위험 관리 및 표준 소통 계획
Context
The coastal areas of the West African region face some major challenges in adapting to the changing climatic conditions. The coastal zone is responsible for a large part of the region's economic activities and changing coastal dynamics are already threatening societal and economic interests. Coastal challenges have been noted at a number of Pan-African Ministerial conferences and action has recently been taken to develop a closer regional collaboration with the establishment of the coastal coordination mechanism, the "West African Coastal Observation Mission (WACOM)". Currently, 11 West African countries are part of the mechanism, including Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo and Benin. The WACOM aims to coordinate and implement regional coastal hazard management activities to ensure a sustainable coastal development and timely adaptation to climate change. 배경
서아프리카 연안 지역은 변화하는 기후에 적응하는 과정에서 주요한 난관을 겪고 있다. 연안 지역은 지역의 경제 활동을 상당 부분 담당하고 있으며 변화하는 연안은 이미 사회적/경제적 이익을 위협하고 있다. 연안의 난관은 다수의 범아프리카 장관회의에서 언급되었으며 연안 협력 메커니즘인 "서아프리카 연안 관찰 미션(WACOM)"과 함께 협력하여 지역적 협력을 도모하고자 하는 조치가 이루어졌다. 현재 모리셔스, 세네갈, 감비아, 기니비소우, 기니, 시에라리온, 라이베리아, 코트디아부르, 가나, 토고, 베닌 등을 포함해 11개 서아프리카 국가가 이 메커니즘에 참여하고 있다. WACOM은 지역적 연안 위험 관리 활동을 조율하고 적용해 지속가능한 연안 개발 및 기후변화에 대한 시기적절한 적응을 이루고자 한다.
