[GCF] 나우루(Nauru)의 지속가능하고 기후 회복력을 갖춘 연결성
Constructing a climate-resilient, year-round port for Nauru, preserving the vital sea-link for its 11,300 population deep in the Pacific.
Nauru is the world’s smallest island country, and one of the SIDS. As a result of its isolated position in the Pacific, Nauru depends significantly on its port for supplies of food, energy and most other essentials. However, the port is expected to become inoperable for longer periods every year due to the impact of sea level rise and increase intensity of climate-related disasters such as strong storms and cyclones.
Constructing a climate-resilient port that can operate year-round will provide the basis for regional and international maritime transport. The rehabilitation and climate-proofing of the existing infrastructure will be combined with supporting reforms of the Nauru Port Authority to assure long-term viability of the investment. The upgraded port infrastructure will feature a channel for oceangoing ships, a wharf with a turning berth, a breakwater to shelter the wharf and berth from waves, and other facilities.
The project has an estimated lifespan of 50 years.
태평양의 깊은 곳 나우루(Nauru)에 11,300명 인구의 해양 연결성을 위해 기후 회복력을 갖추고 연중 계속되는 항구 건설 프로젝트이다.
나우루는 세계에서 가장 작은 섬나라로, 군서도서개발도상국(Small Island Developing States; SIDS) 중 하나이다. 태평양에서 고립된 위치에 있어 나우루는 식량 및 에너지를 비롯한 필수 부문의 공급을 위해 항구에 주로 의존한다. 그러나, 이 항구에서는 해수면 상승의 결과로 매년 운영할 수 있는 기간이 점점 더 짧아지고, 돌풍과 사이클론과 같은 기후재난의 강도도 심해질 것으로 예상된다. 국내 및 국제 해양 수송의 기초는 연중 운영이 가능하며, 기후 회복력을 갖춘 항구를 건설하는 것이다. 기존 인프라를 재건하고 기후변화의 영향력을 받지 않게 만드는 것은 나우루 항만 관리 위원회(Nauru Port Authority)의 개혁을 지원하는 것과 관련이 있을 것이다. 개선된 항만 인프라는 바다를 항해하는 선박들을 위한 창구, 분기점이 되는 정박지, 파도로부터 부두와 정박지를 보호하는 방파제 역할을 할 것이다.
프로젝트 기간은 50년으로 예정되어 있다.
