[GCF] 감비아강 유역 대규모 생태계 기반 기후 적응: 기후 탄력성을 갖춘 천연 자원 기반 경제 개발을 통하여
Restoring degraded forests and agricultural landscapes in The Gambia with climate-resilient plants, establishing natural resource-based businesses, and strengthening capacity and policies to implement ecobased adaptation systems.
Climate change is exacerbating the effects of poverty in The Gambia, which is one of the poorest countries in Africa. Large-scale ecosystem adaptation is necessary to build climate resilience of rural Gambian communities, whose livelihoods are threatened by the impacts of climate change. In order to respond to this threat, The Gambia is transitioning towards a sustainable green economy based on climate-resilient livelihoods and rigorous, evidence-based management of natural resources.
Implementing Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) is a significant part of this strategy, and its implementation will be enabled through the GCF investment. EbA will both protect the environment and facilitate the development of the sustainable, natural resource-based economy to the benefit of local communities. EbA will be integrated into planning at national, district and village levels. Agricultural landscapes and degraded ecosystems including forests, mangroves and savannahs will be restored using climate-resilient tree and shrub species across an area of at least 10,000 hectares. This will be complemented by the establishment of natural resource-based businesses managed by local communities.
The project has an estimated lifespan of 6 years.
기후탄력성이 있는 식물, 천연 자원 기반 사업 구축, 친환경 기반 기후적응 시스템 실행력 및 정책 강화와 더불어 감비아의 퇴화한 삼림과 농업 경관을 복구하는 것이 목적이다. 
기후변화는 감비아에서 빈곤함의 영향을 악화시키고 있다. 감비아는 아프리카에서 가장 가난한 국가 중 한 곳이다. 사람들의 생계가 기후변화의 영향으로 위협받고 있는 감비아 농촌의 기후탄력성 생성을 위해 대규모 생태계 적응은 필수적이다. 이러한 위협에 대처하기 위해 감비아는 기후회복력을 갖춘 생계수단과 증거를 기반으로 하는 활발한 천연 자원 관리를 기초로 지속가능한 녹색경제로 탈바꿈하고 있다. 생태계 기반 적응(Ecosystem-based Adaptation; EbA)법을 활용하는 것은 이 전략에서 중요한 부분이며, 이는 녹색기후기금(Green Climate Fund, GCF)을 통해 이루어질 것이다. EbA는 환경을 보호하기도 하고, 지역 공동체의 혜택에 대한 지속가능한 천연 자원 기반 경제 개발을 용이하게 하기도 한다. 이 방식으로 국가, 지역, 마을 수준의 계획으로 통합될 예정이다. 농업 경관과 삼림, 맹그로브삼림, 사바나 등 퇴화된 생태계는 최소 10,000 헥타르 규모에 기후탄력적인 나무와 관목을 활용하여 복구할 것이다. 지역 공동체가 운영하는 천연 자원 기반 사업체 설립으로 실행될 것이다.
프로젝트 기간은 6년으로 예정되어 있다.
