Title Join Webinar on Talanoa Dialogue at COP24, 28 September
The Talanoa Dialogue is a pivotal international conversation in which countries and all relevant stakeholders take stock of progress to keep global temperatures within safe levels and on track to reach net zero emissions by mid-century, as agreed under the Paris Climate Change Agreement. Led by the Fijian and Polish COP Presidencies, this process invites national governments, sub-nationals, the private sector, civil society, expert institutions and citizens. Ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference in Poland in December (COP24), a webinar will be held on how the Dialogue is expected to unfold at the COP. Date: Friday, 28 September Time: 14:00 CEST (8:00 EDT) Speakers: Ambassador Luke Daunivalu (COP 23 Chief Negotiator), and Adam Guibourge-Czetwertynski (COP 24 Chief Negotiator), will lead the discussion. Agenda: The session will be focused on the following topics: Overview of the approach/organization of the Ministerial Talanoa at COP24 Information on the delivery of the final Synthesis Report Q&A Further background: from preparatory phase to political phase The wrap-up of the preparatory phase will take place during the first week of COP 24. It will consist of a single meeting in a plenary setting, which will include a space for considering the implications of the Special Report by the IPCC on global warming of 1.5°C; and for sharing any reflections on the preparatory phase. The objective of the political phase is to take stock of the collective efforts of Parties in relation to progress towards the long-term goal of the Paris Agreement and inform the preparation of NDCs. The political phase will consist of an opening meeting, a set of high-level round tables and a closing meeting. This webinar will offer a general overview of the organization of the Talanoa Dialogue at COP 24. Arrangements have now been set, with consideration to adequate sequencing of the high level events, as well as the need to provide time for ongoing negotiations under the Paris Agreement Work Programme.
