The  Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Working Group II (WGII) contribution the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) assesses the impacts of climate change, looking at ecosystems, biodiversity, and human communities at global and regional levels. It also reviews vulnerabilities and the capacities and limits of the natural world and human societies to adapt to climate change.

The WGII contribution was composed by 270 authors from 67 countries and benefited from a further 517 contributing authors. Over 34,000 scientific publications were assessed and over 62,000 expert and government review comments provided and addressed. Of all authors of the AR6, 43% came from developing countries and 41% were women.

The Summary for Policymakers (SPM) of the Working Group II contribution to the Sixth Assessment Report was released on 28 February 2022.

The SBSTA and IPCC will organise a joint three-hour event during SBSTA 56 to provide a forum for Parties to directly engage with IPCC experts to enhance their understanding of the new knowledge and key findings contained in the WGII report. This event will be co-chaired by the chairs of the SBSTA and the IPCC.

The SBSTA and IPCC Chairs will prepare an information note outlining the purpose of the special event, the proposed agenda and to provide further background information to potential participants.
