Context
Tanzania is like other developing countries that are experiencing the impacts of global climate change manifesting in different economic sectors essential for Tanzanians livelihood and subsistence which include water resources, energy generation, food security, ecosystem biodiversity and human health. Tanzania has traditionally depended on hydropower and fossil fuels to generate its power but this energy mix is unsustainable largely due to persistent and frequent draughts and fossil price fluctuations which have adversely resulted in frequent power shortages in the country. The Tanzanian government is therefore focusing on diversifying its energy portfolio by exploring renewable sources of energy such as geothermal energy. Uitilization of geothermal resources face many barriers incluidng financial barriers and technical capacity.
