Title Postcard from Katowice: Thursday, December 13

Following recent announcements by Germany and Norway that they will double their commitment to the Fund, GCF’s COP24 side event yesterday helped to maintain this positive momentum, reviewing the achievements of the Fund, and the challenges ahead.

A high-profile panel of speakers, including ministers from Germany, Japan, Egypt and Kiribati, as well as Ambassador Alba, Special Climate Change Representative of the UN Secretary General, stressed the central role of GCF in building developing country ambition in tackling climate change. A full-capacity audience heard a variety of views on how GCF can upscale and strengthen its part in solving the climate puzzle, in a meeting closed by Co-Chair Lennart Bage. Full report here. Today also saw a couple of events in the pavilion on innovative finance and on agriculture.

Whilst the side event yesterday was the high point of GCF’s visible presence at the COP this week, the Fund is continuing its engagements in Katowice to better support developing countries through a series of country meetings to accelerate support for national-level climate action including readiness support, country programmes, and project pipeline development.
