Title All you Need to Know about Global Climate Action Events at COP24

This year, the international climate negotiations (COP24) are taking place in Katowice, Poland, from 2 to 14 December. While governments are preparing to finalize the Paris Agreement implementation guidelines, other actors – in collaboration with governments – will be showcasing examples of groundbreaking climate action to spur encourage the enhancing of national climate plans, known as Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

With this in mind, many events are organized at this time, to foster even better collaboration between governments and other actors, by exploring new areas for partnerships and cooperation to implement the goals of the Paris Agreement. The intention behind engaging in these events is to build a new form of inclusive multilateralism, that brings everyone on board to solve the climate crisis.

These events are being convened by Global Climate Action.

GCA Schedule

To get an overview of the Global Climate Action work at COP 24, please see our new Events section of the UN Climate Change website. This page acts as a gateway to COP 24 by providing you in one place all relevant links, and first of all: the Full Programme.

The full program boasts well over 100 events, incorporating a range of formats, such as Davos-style events, roundtable discussions, digital dialogues, TED-style talks, video competitions, and the Global Climate Action Awards Ceremony. All these events are all located around a cluster of venues, situated between the main entrance and the plenaries (a map is available on the same page), which collectively act as a Global Climate Action campus.

While this programme includes the events of the Marrakech Partnership, more detailed documentation about these can be found on a second Marrakech Partnership dedicated page, including concept notes and programmes for all events. Outcome documents will be made available on this same page as they become available during the COP.

The COP 24 Presidency has built an Amphitheatre (the Action Hub) situated in a prime location between the entrance and the formal plenary rooms. This area will be utilized as a dynamic events-space – suitable for staging digital events, talk-shows, launch and announcement events, film screenings, competition winners, on-the-sofa style discussions. This is what the Action Hub is about. The full programme also doesn’t display events that will take place in the “Action Hub”: to know what will be happening there, please visit the dedicated Action Hub Events page.

At the United Nations climate change conference in Paris, COP 21, governments agreed that mobilizing stronger and more ambitious climate action is urgently required to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement. Action must come from governments, cities, regions, businesses, and investors. Everyone has a role to play in effectively implementing the Paris Agreement.

In all efforts to fulfill this duty, we wish you a great COP 24!
